The release of EdgeCAM Version 11.5, introduces a host of new features across the product range, ensuring all customers receive productivity benefits from this latest update. New features include automatic rest finishing of steep and shallow contours, new hole operations for milling and turning, significant simulation speed improvements and a new intuitive Part Modeler user interface.

EdgeCAM's established 4 and 5-axis simultaneous machining is extended to support the programming of machines with standard or complex table/table configurations, for example nutated tables. An easy-to-use intuitive interface brings the benefits of advanced multi-axis machining technology in reach of all machinists, by reducing the complexity associated with this technology.

State-of-the-art visualization tools are provided by EdgeCAM Simulator, with the ability to accurately model the machine tool and simulate all movement within the manufacturing process. This is particularly useful with 5-Axis machining, where small changes in angular movement may generate significant movement of the machine tool, increasing the potential for expensive collisions.

Enhanced Rest Finishing cycle for optimised toolpath generation

The key to successful manufacturing lies in the effective use of innovative technology. The enhanced Rest Finishing cycle puts the focus firmly on optimised toolpath generation by offering a new strategy that automatically selects the most appropriate toolpath for machining of steep and shallow contours, ensuring optimum surface finish.

Superior hole machining

Edgecam hole machining has been enhanced through the introduction of a new Depth type to determine which part of the tool reaches the cycle's depth while additional hole feature properties offer support for O-ring grooves, and help to better define the termination of holes. In addition, new easy-to-use hole operations for milling and turning have been added.

Improved simulation speed

In addition, EdgeCAM 11.5 includes significant improvements to the speed of simulation in EdgeCAM Simulator. A state-of-the-art simulation tool with full machine simulation, EdgeCAM Simulator gives a realistic representation of the machining process, allowing the user to prove out programs off-line and move into production faster. These latest improvements are particularly beneficial in the simulation of 5-axis, surface and helical toolpaths.

In addition, this latest release includes a number of new features designed to ensure a faster and more efficient way of working:

  • AutoCAD 2007 DWG/DXF
  • Finish Turn cycle enhancements, including improved start/end point control and cutter radius compensation support on lead moves and for up/down cutting
  • EdgeCAM user interface enhancements such as extended tooltips for toolbar buttons for improved usability
  • Plunge Roughing support for open pockets

EdgeCAM Part Modeler

EdgeCAM Part Modeler is Pathtrace's own 3D modelling tool, specifically designed for quick and simple construction or editing of solid models. Version 11.5 sees the introduction of a new user-friendly interface. A tabbed interface and customisable menus and toolbars with advanced features such as flyouts and extended tooltips - consistent with EdgeCAM - make EdgeCAM Part Modeler intuitive and easy to use, providing a smooth and seamless transition from design to manufacture.
