Summary

This class will introduce you to productivity gains with Custom Family Creation in Autodesk's Revit Architecture. In this class, you will learn the essentials for creating and editing custom Revit families directly within the Revit software. This will allow you to easily create the content you need for your project when you can not find the content in established libraries or content based internet web sites.

Who should attend

This course is intended for beginning to intermediate users of Autodesk Revit Architecture including architects, designers, architectural product manufacturers, facilities planners, drafters and others needing to create custom families generated with Revit Architecture.

Objective

This class is intended for students who have completed the Revit Architecture Level 1 training and are ready to explore the more advanced features in the software specifically focused on the Family Editor. Knowledge of basic techniques, such as creating walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, stairs, views, and sheets, as well as adding components is assumed. You should also be able to use Revit Architecture's modification tools to efficiently copy and move objects and make changes to existing projects.

After completing this advanced workshop, you will understand and be able to explain:

  • How to plan the design of a family for maximum flexibility and use.
  • The Family Editor inter-face and features.
  • Setting up reference planes and lines.
  • Setting up family parameters.
  • Creating complex solids.
  • New Feature: Review of Blended Sweep
  • How to add components into a family.
  • How to create family types.
  • Editing the visibility display settings for a family.
  • How to create custom doors and windows
  • Creating profiles.
  • How to create an annotation family.
  • How to create an in-place family.
  • Customizing Stairs, Railings and balusters. (Optional)

Prerequisites

It is recommended that the student have a working knowledge of the following:

  • Microsoft® Windows® 2000, or Microsoft® Windows® XP
  • Completion of Autodesk Revit Level 1 or Revit Architecture class combined with approximately 120 hours working with Revit Architecture 2009.
  • Drafting, design, or engineering experience.
